I wanted to share my Blog Talk Radio interview here today that I did yesterday with Annette Rochelle Aben, on her podcast series, Tell Me A Story. I was thrilled to be invited over to the podcast, and you can tell by listening to the interview, we both had fun doing it . . ..minus the glitch, where for the first few minutes she couldn’t hear me, lol. But nevertheless, Annette held the fort and became a wonderful publicist and spokesperson for me and my books.
I have to admit, even though I’m a great conversationalist, never lost for words, it was intimidating to step away from my little 4 walls in my office behind the computer and speak live through the cybersphere. A great stepping stone for getting myself out of seclusion and testing the waters for some potential public speaking down the road.

Just listened to the interview and it was fantastic, Debby. Loved how you and Annette chatted. Felt like you were in the same room as me. Wow, all that luggage! I can just see Mr G’s face now as you show him how much you’re taking with you. ?
I didn’t detect any nerves at all and I loved how you both joked about the glitches at the beginning of the interview and not being able to connect straight away.

Lol, thanks Hugh! I just saw your lovely comment on FB! Thanks for the kudos. I was surprised how comfortable I felt immediately with Annette and just pretended I was chatting with her alone on the phone. That’s me Hugh, raw and real. I consider it a great compliment that you felt as though we were all chatting in the same room. That’s the kind of feedback I get from my readers when they review my books, and it’s one of the highest compliments I value as a writer, connecting with a reader.

LOL Hugh, that’s how I felt at first. But then I just got into a groove where I just focused on the thought that I was just on the phone with Annette, chewing the book fat, lol. I think it’s intimidating for many writers to step out from behind the creative curtain and put ourselves ‘out there’ publicly. 🙂

Just listened to your interview with Annette on Blog Talk Radio. Annette is a great host and it was good to put a voice to your photo. I follow your blog and you kindly follow mine but there is something that makes your photo come alive when hearing your voice. It also helps makes your books come alive. Looking forward to your next interview with Annette and reading more of your books. :o)

I haven’t listened yet, but want to congratulate you, Debby. This sounds wonderful all around. I’ve learned to relax with radio interviews despite my struggle with hearing when sound quality isn’t perfect. Easiest for me is face-to-face so I have the help of body language. On the phone, I go with honesty. Hearing loss has become part of my story.

I know your struggle with your hearing Elaine. And I can well understand how in person interviews would make it easier for you. You’ve had more experience than me with public speaking and I admire you for it. You just keep with what works best for you. You don’t have to conform to what makes you uncomfortable. Wonderful radio show. You were a perfect guest–with your amazing story. I loved hearing it in your own voice. And Annette was so right–it must be difficult to revisit these experiences orally. In front of the world. Hearing it brings it home much stronger than even the written word.

Wonderful interview, what a super host in Annette, and Deb, I absolutely loved hearing your voice and feel I know you even better now! You came across as professional, honest, articulate and lots of fun! I just know we’ll have a blast when we finally meet for real, I absolutely can’t friggin’ wait lol 😀 I have your books lined up on my Kindle (although I was holding out for the paperback of your latest, but somehow got a Kindle copy!) and will start with Conflicting Hearts. I have a feeling I’ll be devouring it. I laughed out loud at your baggage stories…it’s happened to me a few times travelling back and forth across the Atlantic so many times, the stuff I crammed in there makes my eyes water at the thought! But…I’ve only been pulled over by customs once and that scared the heebie jeebies out of me, I felt immediately guilty even though all I had in there was numerous packets of tea…oh, and jars of Marmite, lol! Your heart for others, so inspiring and encouraging, makes you a mentor and role model for many, me included, and I know I’m not the only one who thanks you for sharing your life with us, the path you’ve travelled, so painfully at times, to give us hope to believe in our true selves. Oh Deb, firstly, thank you for springing me from spam prison, lol! I’ve been in touch with Akismet today back and forth, and I’m hoping the problem is sorted now. And secondly, I know I gush, but I can’t help it, I really do mean every word! I also wanted to say that you were very brave to do this interview, I can’t even speak properly into Hugh’s phone video at the blogger’s bash, I get stumped for words and act so silly! Public speaking as published authors is something we need to practice…I’m burying my head in the sand big time about that right now!…but having a show like this, with Annette as such a superb host, must do wonders for your publicity. You sounded as if you had done these kind of shows many times before, you didn’t sound nervous at all, despite the glitch at the beginning. You should be so proud. It all sounds positively nerve-wracking lol! They say the fear of public speaking is number one of top fears! I can believe it! You trail the path my friend, I will follow, one of these days! But first…back to my memoir. A frustrating writing week, but a busy week in other ways, so a lot accomplished. But I get really irritable if I can’t get to my writing lol! Poor hubby…he deserves a medal 🙂 I’ll always be in your corner my dear friend, as I know you’re in mine. I’ve heard some of Annette’s interviews, always excellent, and I had hoped to listen to yours live, but I ended up having a meeting at the same time. Beautiful introduction and it’s great to put a voice to your writing (although I agree you sound as you write, approachable and passionate).
