My Sunday book review on No Sex Please, I’m Menopausal by Stevie Turner.
If you like women’s fiction, a bit of chick-lit, and can identify with menopausal madness, you’ll like this book.

Blurb:
After going through the menopause Lyn finds that she no longer wants sex. This is unfortunate, as her husband Neil still does. When he discards her after 35 years of marriage like an old worn out shoe, Lyn moves to Cornwall to start a new life. However, new friends are hard to find, and she feels lonely.
On the spur of the moment she decides to join an online dating site, ‘MatchULike’, just for companionship. Amongst the peculiar people she meets is Peter; shy, and conscious that his ‘gentleman’s’ operation has rendered him an unattractive prospect in the marriage stakes. Lyn makes a friend of Peter, but when Neil gets to hear about the friendship he realises too late that there is more to a relationship than just sex, and he suddenly starts to appear back on the scene and wants to turn her life upside down all over again!
My 5 Star Review
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Lyn, whose life is turned around after experiencing residual effects of menopause, while her husband Neil seems to be going through a mid-life crisis. Lyn discovers Neil’s philandering ways by finding out about his adulterous affair he’s having to satisfy his sex drive. This escapade leads to the end of their marriage.
Lyn’s devastation has her moving away and starting a new life with new adventures, friends and relationships. Meanwhile, ‘back at the ranch’, Neil learns his newfound freedom and relationship with a younger woman isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and finds himself pining for his ex wife.
The story mirrors real life in many ways – pitfalls in relationships, side effects of menopause, and marriage mishaps. I found myself laughing with Lyn and drawn into her drama and decisions. And although I’m in total disagreement with some of the choices she made at the end of this book, it was her story, not mine, and that didn’t change the fact that the story was engaging and well written.
Men! Always want something they already had when it’s too late . ….I might check it out! I’m always looking for something new!

The title of this post (and the book) jumped out at me since my first career was acting and directing. In its early days I toured with a dinner theatre production of _No Sex Please, We’re British_ – farce, of course!
It seems difficult for men (and younger women) to understand or empathize with the travails of menopause – and not just diminished sex drive! Unfortunately, many of us don’t/can’t get it until/unless it happens to us personally – and we all seem to look back with regret on more than a few items we wish we had valued more at the time. This book sounds like a good romp through the issues. Thanks to your review, it’s on my list.

Thanks for chiming in Madelyn. It’s so true, it’s hard to empathize if we haven’t been there. That’s why I wrote a telling memoir of my own journey through menopause, peppered with its humorous moments, because I mean, come on, ya gotta laugh! And I wanted to note I saw that play when I was in London many decades ago! 🙂

My journey was particularly bizarre – I got COLD flashes (wild teeth chattering and all).
Gratefully, given my unusually disabling heat sensitivity and under-performing sweat glands, I had only one hot flash.
Immediately following I commented to a friend sitting next to me in the car (driving, thank goodness!):
“Women need to complain MORE about this nonsense – I was totally unprepared and it was truly a dreadful experience!”

Now that’s interesting. Although, my flashes were the gift that kept on giving, and when I’d try to sleep at night (try being the operative word for about 2 years), after each subsequent thunderous flash would come a chill through my body that had me aptly name a chapter after, Covers on, Covers off. Lol, so glad I can laugh now. 🙂 ❤

As I already said, I am grateful to have been able to skip the heated portions of your experience. Since, once I’m finally asleep I can sleep through practically anything, I couldn’t say whether or not I did the covers dance.

Wow, how strange, I just found this comment in spam? After all I went through to fix my site today 😦 and it was in duplicate I may add.

Gott’ love WordPress! There have been glitches on my end today, attempting to respond from my site to any comment on any blog that did not end in WordPress dot com (the whirling wheel of time-passing-forever until, finally, a failure notice).
In a couple of cases I gave up, jumped over to copy directly to the generating page – and only once did I get a “duplicate comment” notification when I tried to publish – that probably explains it. (Let’s pretend it does, even if it doesn’t – lol).
