My Sixth Sense – Human in Every Sense of the Word – Smorgasbord Blog Magazine

Today I’m sharing my  “Human in Every Sense of the Word” article shared at Sally Cronin’s Smorgasbord as a contribution to her series. If you’d like to take part in the series with a story to share, you will find the submission info link below.

Welcome to the Sunday Interview- Human in every sense of the word.

As humans there are five main senses that we rely on to navigate through this world.  And there is one that we all possess but do not necessarily use all the time…

Sight, Hearing, Touch, Taste, Smell….Sixth Sense.

You can choose to write about one sense or all of them, including that elusive sixth sense we have clung on to from the early days of man.

If you would like to participate then here are the details along with my take on senses:https://smorgasbordinvitation.wordpress.com/2019/05/23/smorgasbord-blog-magazine-new-sunday-interview-series-human-in-every-sense-of-the-word-starting-sunday-june-30th-2019/

This week’s guest is no stranger to most of you joining us this morning. Non-Fiction author D.G. Kaye (Debby Gies) has been writing the Travel Column on Smorgasbord for the last year, enticing us to travel to wonderful destinations, to be safe and to get the best from our vacations… She has also become the Comedian in Residence, joining me a couple of times a week in a quest to bring a smile to your faces.

Human in Every Sense of the Word – My Sixth Sense – IAS (Inner Alert System) – D.G. Kaye

My sixth sense superpower is my inner warning signal, urging me to take a pause and pay immediate attention to an occurrence. The delivery method to this sense is through my stomach. When something isn’t right, this messaging system is almost always never wrong, the knots within, feeling like twisted intestines, take hold.

I do believe many of us have an inner alert system, flagging us to pay extra attention to a wrong-doing or danger. We have only to recognize these inner warnings so we may act on them. It’s important though to assess what we are feeling to help identify what exactly isn’t sitting right with us. Is it a feeling of unease or just plain fear? If you aren’t well versed on being able to decode these warning issues, then perhaps this isn’t your superpower. But for me, I’ve never been led astray when my twisted insides are trying to get my attention.

Now, truth be told, my radar alerts are almost always warnings portending to something bad coming. It’s quite possible my intuition knows I don’t require a happiness warning, as pure joy is what comes naturally when elated. With me, it’s a message of doom that stirs within. My intestines are like my Achille’s heel.

Through the years and decades, I’ve sadly had too many of these awakening moments, and I’ll share here just one incident to demonstrate how this feeling transpires. This IAS (inner alert system) is something I can’t really explain, but I know its presence well.
This incident stays with me till this day and was a confirmation to myself for the first time that I was able to receive premonitions.

I was twenty-five and living in my same cozy apartment I’d lived in for some 7 years by this point. I sat in front of my vanity table putting on the finishing touches of my makeup to get ready for work when I felt a sharp pull on my heartstrings and an uncomfortable twisting of my insides. I put down the lipstick and leaned back in my chair as unexplained tears began spilling down from my freshly mascaraed eyes. I didn’t question what I was feeling. I knew instinctively the weird feelings I was experiencing had nothing to do with my own health. I knew something was wrong with my father.

I darted out of my chair, heading to the phone to call my father, and before I could pick up the receiver I was startled by the ringing of the phone. I made note of the time – half past 7, and everyone knows calls coming in at that time of the morning aren’t usually good news. . . please continue reading at Sally’s blog . . .

Do you have a Superpower?

  1. Hi Debby – I can believe you have that uncanny knowledge … I don’t, yet sometimes feel something isn’t right – just not in a position to know enough to ask salient questions and get myself out of a ‘horror’ situation later on … not wanting to ask someone if they’re lying or not letting me know sufficient information … interesting post though – cheers Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary. It’s a blessing and a curse, but I would rather get a heads up than be totally shocked. And it sounds like you already have your intuition in gear, you only need to pay more attention to your inner guidance. 🙂 x

  2. Sometimes I get feelings of foreboding and warning signs which I do pay attention to but I’m not as attuned to things as you are. I guess one of my superpowers (yes, I have more than one 😉 ) is being able to read people after a quick observation. I have natural psychology and I’m usually able to see where people are coming from relatively easy. 😉 xo

    1. Omg Vashti, I have that too! I had that since I was a child and never been wrong about my evaluations. I consider it part of my intuition, but I like your term ‘natural psychology’, I’d never heard that. I know I’m labeled as a HSP – highly sensitive person, and perhaps that ability is part of it. I think that’s a blessing because we are forewarned and forearmed. ❤ xx

  3. Ah, very intriguing. I am baffled to say I recall perhaps having had similar experiences but can’t bring them to mind. So, if I did, they must not have been as painful as yours. I sympathize with your sixth-sense revelation nonetheless.

  4. I’m with you on this, Deb. That feeling bad news before you hear about it. I am that person, too. I felt my daughter was in trouble grad night so called her on her cell. She answered crying–she’d just crashed the car.

I believe the sixth sense is based on science–all that sensory input we ignore in favor of words. We get about 50% of our communication via body language but ignore it. You, though, are tuned into this, more than most. Kudos on that!

    1. Wow Jacqui, good to learn you too have that ability. Like you just said, we get 50% of our communication via body, and it’s up to each person to learn how to develop it if they so choose. 🙂

  5. I have an IAS, Debby, but it’s more like a stuffed brain that can’t think straight. A little red alarm blinks on my forehead. I have to stop everything and listen to my intuition. It NEVER leads me wrong… unless I ignore it, which is really an idiotic thing to do. I’m heading to Sally’s to read the rest.

  6. What a wonderful (though heart-wrenching) story about your 6th sense, Debby, I think we all should share our stories of our senses (outside of the 5 that scientists acknowledge). I have a feeling we all have 6th, 7th, 8th and more senses! The important thing is to being open to feeling them and responding to them, as you do. I get the gut reaction, for sure, but it’s not as strong as yours. I have a strong sense though when someone is saying/acting an untruth, or speaking an untruth (hard to explain). My heart seems to literally TWIST. It’s a disconcerting feeling, and I have to take several breaths in to relax the heart and send out silent wishes that the person can find the truth in his/her own heart. (Sorry, not explaining well.) If I’m hurt emotionally or psychically, I get the same heart twist.

    1. Thanks for sharing Pam. Oh, I get you well, because I’m the same way with truth. It’s like a built in bullshit detector. You’re quite evidently an empath my friend. ❤

  7. I think most people have the intuition, just that one can either be naturally tuned in or teach themselves to tune in. I don’t/can’t at the moment. I think it’s both, good and bad. As with feeling too much. Being too much.
Hope you have a peaceful weekend

    1. Thank you Eliza. Love your sign off, and I agree. It’s a matter if we know how to hone that intuition. And yes, it is both a blessing and a curse. Yes! Love, light and glitter! ❤

  8. Yes, I have a few superpowers, besides seeing ghosts at the early age of 9 years old, I have had premontions, usually about people I don’t know very well at all. I have no idea why, but they always come to pass within a couple of days or less and up to a week or several weeks or on a few occasions 2 months later. I am also very aware of whatever environment I am in or might be in the near future (premonition-wise), very similiar to Debby’s warning system.

Mostly, I sometimes become fearful and anxious for no apparent reason if something bad will happen or very overly cheerfull if the premontion is about something wonderful that will happen. If you tell someone about the premonition you had, they think you are crazy and when it happen’s they think you are a witch. Better not to say anything, unless a life is at stake, but even then, they will blame you even though you may have warned them. It is a conundrum.

Other than that, I am pretty normal (I hope)!

    1. Lol Karen, I love your honesty. And you are so right. People are quick to judge, and I so keep many of my premonitions to myself. And funny when I was in my 20s, I spent a lot of time reading and researching my mysterious gifts and worked on honing them. Some of my closest friends began calling me witch, but white witch, as I would never indulge in anything evil. ❤ Stay blessed. 🙂 xx

  9. I don’t have superpowers, but I do believe in my intuition. Although – luckily – not each time I dread something bad coming, something actually happens. To my immediate family or friends anyway. Often, stuff does happen when I have a preconceived notion about it, but not always in the form I expected. Hopping over to Sally now, but I’m a bit worried about the rest of your story, Debby.
