#Bloganuary – What Emoji(s) Do You Like to Use?

What a fun prompt. As I don’t have the fortitude or time right now to hop on to every daily WordPress #bloganuary challenge, this is one topic I thought would be fun to join in with – What emoji(s) do you like to use?

As a person who is naturally animated when she speaks, emojis are always an accompaniment to all my posts and comments – as many of you know. For me, they are accessories to punctuation and emotions. For many in my closer circles, I will add a heart and at the very least, I’ll always add a smiley face after commenting. For me, it’s like speaking to someone while wearing a smile.

Emojis are used to add fun and expression of feelings and emotions. I’m inclined to think that people who use them are also people who like using their hands in animation to convey expression. That would definitely be me. I use them in comments and social media, and even sometimes on a post. ❣

  2. It’s impossible to follow and participate in all the challenges, I agree, Debby, although I see why you’d be interested in this one. I never thought about emojis as equivalent to being expressive while talking (I remember preparing for an oral exam and somebody telling me I moved my arms too much!), but it’s an interesting point. I do use hearts, smiles, but I’ve seen some, sometimes, that I didn’t quite know what they meant, and there are always occasions when you realised you’ve clicked on the wrong thing… Stay safe!

Hi Debby – I’m not a fan … but am probably not overly expressive when talking … or perhaps I want the words and body language to do the talking for me rather than an emoji … that might not be right. I’m definitely not on the same wavelength in this respect … so none here = sorry … you can have one of my ellipses instead! Cheers enjoy the trip down south – have fun … Hilary

  11. I didn’t use emojis until I started blogging, Debby, and now I use them a lot! They’re like adding body language to our comments. ❤ ❤ ❤ My only problem is I only know how to make smiley faces and hearts! LOL. How the heck do you make butterflies and unicorns? I've been wanting to ask that question, and this seems like the perfect time! 😀 Hugs.

    1. Hi Diana. Yes, that’s it, like body language, lol. Every computer has an ability to call up the emoji box. I don’t know if you are a Mac user or Windows, but I’m on Windows and if I hold down the ‘windows’ key plus the ‘period’ key at the same time, the emoji box comes up. ❤

Of course you love them Sal! 🙂 Actually, WP doesn’t offer them on my blog (as far as I know), but like I just typed to Diana, if you’re on Windows computer (not sure what it is for Mac), just hold down the windows key plus the period key at the same time and the emoji box opens. Now I know you’re on an older Windows version, but it may still work. ❤ xx

    1. Yay, glad to hear Robbie. But yes, you can pull up emojis from your computer. On Windows just press the windows key plus the period key at the same time, or on Mac, just click, command, control and spacebar keys at same time. 🙂 x

  15. I don’t use them on my blog, but I do on social media, especially Twitter, and in apps like WhatsApp and when sending text messages.

    However, I think using lots of them in a message can take away from what’s being said. I don’t even know what some of them mean. I’d never use them in the title of a blog post or in the post itself. If I see them scattered all over a blog post, then it’s a sign for me to leave. And I trash any comments on my blog that are nothing but emojis. I prefer actual words in comments or for somebody to press ‘like’ rather than send me a comment full of emojis.

    I can see why some people like using them, though, Debby.

    1. I understand what you’re saying Hugh. Too much is overkill, and I’ve seen some on social media like you mention where I have no clue what the story is by emoji. But for me, as hugs and smiles they work nicely. 🙂 x

  18. Your emojis totally reflect your character, I think, Debby. And, you are right that they convey how we would talk. I remember a time when you used “lol” a lot. 🙂 I usually don’t bother searching for better emojis and just use the smiley face or the heart, except when writing a “happy birthday” to my 13-year-old niece. Pretty boring, but oh well. 🙂

  20. I share your sentiments about emojis. Emojis really do give your words expression and colour. Sometimes I can come across as serious chatting on social media when really I am in fun mood, so I like to use a smiley emoji to convey how I really feel 🙂 I also like the heart emoji a lot, and use it when I want to show someone I mean well or I am happy to talk with them.
