How One Amateur Blogger Improved Her Writing with an SEO Plugin – ALWAYS WRITE
Today I’m sharing another interesting article from my blogging friend Marsha Ingrao’s blog at Marshajustwrites.com. Marsha has been working diligently to discover the world of blogging and how to get more traffic to our blogs using SEO (search engine optimization).
Ya, she gets as freaked out as we do when it comes to learning new things and methods to build our blogs and readership, that’s why I love her articles because she’s no different than us when it comes to being overwhelmed by all this information and as she learns things, she shares by breaking things down into bite sized pieces. While I have chosen to use the “Ultimate SEO‘ plugin instead of Yoast, the same info applies except for some varying features on both.
Have a look at Marsha’s article below:
Attention Amateur Blogger!
An amateur blogger can benefit from plugins not available on WordPress.com. Adding the Yoast SEO plugin improves and focuses writing skills.
What Is Your Blog’s SEO Score? As an amateur blogger, I paid very little attention to anything SEO. If I saw those three letters together, my eyes glazed over. Continue Reading….

If I understood Marsha’s post correctly, I can’t use Yoast on WP.com. Can Ultimate SEO be used on WP.com? Another great share, Deb. Thank you ♥

Thanks T. I’m no authority on Yoast, Marsha would know more, and I think, I’m not sure, you may not be able to add Yoast on .com But the good news is, WP.com already has an SEO program built in. 🙂 <3 Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, Deb. I’ll look for it ♥

Here is the link to the WP article about how WP.com uses SEO assistance. https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/ It’s a great post. 🙂

Thanks Marsha. I’ll check it out. 🙂

Thank you, Marsha!

The Ultimate SEO is also a plugin, so it can’t be used with WordPress.com. I did not know that WP.com had an SEO built in. I have not noticed it in use. I learn something every day! 🙂
Marsha
Thanks so much for sharing. I did not know that WP.com has the SEO program built in. How do you know when you have done all the SEO tasks correctly?
dgkaye
Well, I’m self hosted, so mine works differently than .com. But I have access to my analytics, as I hear WP.com users do. I can go to my SEO settings and check things. Although I don’t believe the built in SEO in .com acts like Yoast, helping with headlines etc.
Marsha
WordPress.com SEO does nothing to inform the user of why or why something is not effective. I used to get emails all the time from companies wanting to help me improve my SEO when I used WordPress.com. Now I use CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer on everything. and I do the same things I do for Yoast on my .com posts. I just don’t know how I did. Does your service rate each post? Yoast rates SEO and readibility with a green, yellow or red dot. It lists the criteria for both the same way, so you know what to change. Good, ok and stop! I love that!
dgkaye
Yes, my service rates posts, but not with color codes. And I too use CoSchedule (lol, when I remember) which is most helpful. I learned that from Janice Wald. 🙂
Marsha
I love Co Schedule. Janice is awesome.

Very interesting article, Debby. I’ve heard a lot about the term, “SEO” before. I do know what it means. It will be good to know if I ever change over to an actual website instead of WordPress.
dgkaye
Thanks Lana. Your WP is an actual website, lol. But becoming self-hosted is a whole new beast of babysitting. I have no regrets just lots to figure out when things go wrong. 🙂

See, there you go, now you know how I am such a blogging wonder and so fluent in SEO, lol! 😀 Self-hosted, that’s the word, wink, wink 😀
