Beautiful heartwarming short stories sure to grab at your heartstrings. Each story takes us into the life of a character with a significant name leaving us with a heartfelt message and an unexpected ending.
I’ve read the first volume and very much looked forward to and enjoyed Book 2. Cronin’s writing has a way of taking us into the character’s emotions, evoking an emotion in us in return, be it angst, fear, passion or grief. Kleenex warnings shou …more

Some great books on your list and thanks for including mine. I’m still scared from troll attacks on Goodreads, so have been staying clear of the site. Thanks for reminding me of the good sides of the site. ❤
LikeLike
Thanks Christoph. But that is disconcerting that you had a problem there with trolls. I don’t do much there except share books, no real engagement otherwise so I hope that keeps my nose clean. 🙂 ❤

I do intent to do more reading this year Debby,..
And have a book which my daughter gifted me for Christmas from Africa, after visiting the Global White Lion Trust in November and meeting the Author and founder of the trust Linda Tucker. As part of her own Spiritual Journeying, 🙂 A most excellent read, One I know you would also find enlightening.
Its called the one called The 13 Laws

I catalog my books on both rifflebooks.com and on goodreads and try to read only those that I think deserve a “5” rating. Life is to short to waste on below-par books. Right? Like you, my reading fuels my writing, a good thing.

Similar to my plan Marian. As I just commented to Jacqui, I don’t like to read books I can’t give a 4 or 5 star rating to. I like to read something engaging and write an honest review. 🙂

What a fun review. I finished mine–yay! You’re like me, Deb–my average review was high. I think it’s as much that I love reading, all types, and find passion in everything as anything else.

I think you may be right Jacqui. But I always try to give a fair and honest review and don’t like reviewing books that I feel aren’t worthy of more than 3 stars, so I just prefer not reviewing them. 🙂

My goal this year is to up my reading habit. I always listen to one audiobook a month, but I have noticed how I let my phone suck up too much of my reading time. I do fine with not scrolling too long on FB, but looking up articles on all manner of things is what eats into my reading time. I need to make more time for reading books! Actual books!!!
LikeLike
I hear you Jeri, especially about looking up articles and how one page can lead to another and another. It’s like we become part time researchers lol, and all the while, the clock is ticking by. My reading time is only at night before bed, and then that depends how long I last before I crash out. I also get my 3 times a week at the gym where I’ll take my Kindle to read on the treadmill. So I look forward to my winter vacations where I catch up on reading a lot more books. 🙂

That’s amazing, Deb. What an accomplishment! You must feel great satisfaction. I, on the other hand, am put to shame 😦 Time to turn off the political news and pick up the Kindle! 🙂 ❤

Lol, thanks T. Hey, I hear you. The political news has been a major distraction for me this year, surprised I got out another book, lol. And as for reading, it’s only done in bed before I pass out, so how many pages getting read is always a gamble. I think winter vacation allows me to do a huge catch up. Looking forward to that big time!!!!! ❤ xxx

Once I hit the bed, it’s a gamble how long my eyes will stay open! I’ve got to carve out a different time to read 🙂 ❤

Congratulations, Debby and some excellent books here…some I’ve read and others a reminder I want to read! I’ve made note of these! 😀😀I use Goodreads for its challenge…met mine last year and it’s so useful to keep track of what I read! I’ve now started leaving reviews and reading reviews on there as well. I got a bit concerned about Christoper’s comment about trolls, though…
LikeLike
Thanks Annika. Well, yes, Christoph has had his share of trolls on both GR and Amazon. I think it’s important to share reviews for other readers. I don’t have a lot of interaction on GR, and I think it’s key to check out the people who request to friend us, just as I do on Twitter before following back. This helps with getting to know if people are genuine or bots or trolls. It’s not 100% but it’s good to filter. For example if I get a notification that so and so wants to be my friend on GR, I’ll click on their name to go to their page, There, I’ll look at if they are an author first, if they’re a reader I look at how many books they’ve read and reviewed. If they’ve read 0 books I don’t accept. If they’re reviews are mostly 3 and 2 stars I don’t accept either, especially if I read unjust logic for those low reviews. It’s not foolproof but it’s the criteria I use to sift out potential trolls. 🙂

Debby, many thanks for the advice and I’ll make sure to follow your tips. At the moment I’m only with connected to friends from here on WP on GR.

I enjoyed looking down your list and finding books that sparked my interest. I set a goal for 2018 to read 100 books. I read 85 in 2017. I wake up between 5-5:30am every morning and read on my Kindle until 6:30 or 7:00. I love to read and have my Kindle with me everywhere I go. I am usually reading during the national news…ugh!

Hi Karen. Wow! You read 85 books, that’s amazing! I only get to read at night before bedtime and like you, whenever I have an appointment or a long drive (of course I’m not driving, lol) I have my Kindle with me too. I love vacations where I can catch up on many more books too. 🙂 x

I joined the Goodreads reading challenge at 30 books. I read 26 last year, which isn´t a lot but I´m a slow reader. You read so many good books last year!! Good luck with your goal for this year.
LikeLike
Thanks Darlene. Slow reading isn’t a bad thing. For me, it’s the shortage of time I get to read. I was surprised I got that many read considering I only read in bed before going to sleep or stolen moments while waiting for appointments. But my vacations allow me to catch up a bit more too. 🙂

I love the Goodreads challenge, and participate every year. Sometimes I exceed the amount of books I set for myself (2016) and sometimes I come up short (2017). I wanted to read 80 books in 2017 but only managed 60. This year I’m aiming for a more realistic 65.
My review ratings tend to be high on average too, as I won’t review a book if I can’t give it at least three stars. I think most authors are the same way. GR definitely helps in keeping track of what we read and I love the look back stats they supply at the end of the year.
Congrats on succeeding your goal and happy reading!

Good for you, Deb!! I really enjoyed seeing the summation of the year’s reading for you. I’m impressed. I also have one myself and it’s very interesting to see the whole year in books. I read 25 but I hadn’t set a goal. I have set a goal for 2018 though (30 books) so we’ll see if I can get it done. 😀 Isn’t GoodReads fantastic? I just love the site.

Yes, I enjoy it too Lis. And I like the challenge because it kind of keeps us accountable! So now we’ve both set 30 books. Let’s see if we can meet our goal or even surpass! 🙂 x

Nice! Congrats, lovely lady. You did really well. I’ve never participated in this and just yesterday I was on Goodreads and decided, “Eh, what the hell. I’ll try it.” My number was pitiful (12) so I upped it to be a REAL challenge: 26. 52 weeks in a year, 26 books read by me. *shrugs* That’s a stretch for me and 12 probably would have been more likely but let’s see what I can do without giving up my writing time, self-care, family time, etc. Oh! And I see my two books in your 2017 list. 🙂 That’s fun. Happy New Year!

Congratulations, Debby. Why doesn’t it surprise me that you are an over-achiever! You’ve got a wonderful list of books there, a few of which I have also read and enjoyed. I’ve a way to go to catch up though. How many are you aiming for in 2018?
Isn’t that a wonderful way for Goodreads to provide your reading record!

Thanks Norah. And yes, the challenge is a good way to help stay accountable. If I wasn’t doing too many things I would have doubled it. But for this year I’ve once again aimed for 30 to see if I can surpass that again. My reading time is limited to bedtime and when out and about in waiting rooms. I get a good roll going while on vacation! Hoping to read at least 10 books on my winter vacation. 🙂
