“They can tell you it is only because the brain is shutting down, the powerful anesthesia and drugs, but in truth you are undergoing an out-of-body experience, stepping into another dimension that so many call Heaven. Just like others who have taken this journey… I have no time reference and it is hard to associate a word or description to what I experienced. Even now, my rational, reasoning mind still has a hard time assimilating the experience. I understand that this is quite common for those who have had an NDE, and most find it hard to share this event fearing it was just their imagination, but at the same time they have a deep lingering feeling, a knowing, that something very real happened.” – Elaina Deva Proffitt Copyright © 2017

  1. How wonderful to see Elaina’s book here, Debby! I met her over ten years ago when she did a reading for me, and we became fast friends. She will be thrilled to see this review! It’s such a powerful read. I love your take on it. Thanks for sharing.

      1. It was back in 2010. I went to the Dallas Psychic Fair and Elaina was reading. I was drawn to her table because of her middle name. My oldest daughter’s name is Deva. Anyway, it was at that reading she leaned across the table and told me I was going to write a book and gave me the name of a graphic artist to contact for book covers. At that time, I hadn’t even started writing yet. It was truly a moment where time was frozen, and the truth came to call. We became friends as she followed my writing journey. She now lives in Nevada and tends to rescue horses. So, that’s how we met.

      2. Wow, thanks for sharing that amazing story. And so funny Jan, I went to see a psychic well over a decade ago, and was told to ‘write that book!’ Before I even thought about it. Lol Sistah! ❤

  2. What an interesting description and review. It sounds like a combination of a spiritual memoir about life and death, and a crime thriller. A fascinating read, Debby. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  3. Debby, I can understand why this book would appeal to you. Yes, truth is stranger than fiction. I latched on to these lines in your post: “One time, while watching her Grandmother place each of those purple blooms into the vase I suddenly calmly told her, ‘When I die it will be in May so I can have Lilacs at my funeral.’”

Grandma L. had loads of lilac bushes around her house. When she died though, my aunt who lived with her made a wild-flower bouquet for her casket. I believe lilies-of-the-valley were the star, not lilacs.

    1. Hi Marian. That’s interesting about the choice of flowers for your grandma’s casket. But the lilacs in this story were very symbolic throughout the story. I know lilies-of-the-valley are often used for funerals and sympathy. ❤

  4. You picked a fascinating sounding book to review, Debby.
It’s so cool that Elaina rescues wild horses, donkeys and burros.
Canada has a horrid reputation in that regard… sending them into the slaughter pipeline and the conditions endured while they are waiting to die.
    I’ve signed many petitions.

The fact that she is doing the saving is as important as solving crimes, because inhumane slaughter is a crime.

Love the lilacs. I’d like my ashes to be buried under a lilac tree.
    Adore you! xoxo ❦❦❦❦❦
