Blurb:

After going through the menopause Lyn finds that she no longer wants sex. This is unfortunate, as her husband Neil still does. When he discards her after 35 years of marriage like an old worn out shoe, Lyn moves to Cornwall to start a new life. However, new friends are hard to find, and she feels lonely.

On the spur of the moment she decides to join an online dating site, ‘MatchULike’, just for companionship. Amongst the peculiar people she meets is Peter; shy, and conscious that his ‘gentleman’s’ operation has rendered him an unattractive prospect in the marriage stakes. Lyn makes a friend of Peter, but when Neil gets to hear about the friendship he realises too late that there is more to a relationship than just sex, and he suddenly starts to appear back on the scene and wants to turn her life upside down all over again!

My 5 Star Review

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Lyn, whose life is turned around after experiencing residual effects of menopause, while her husband Neil seems to be going through a mid-life crisis. Lyn discovers Neil’s philandering ways by finding out about his adulterous affair he’s having to satisfy his sex drive. This escapade leads to the end of their marriage.
Lyn’s devastation has her moving away and starting a new life with new adventures, friends and relationships. Meanwhile, ‘back at the ranch’, Neil learns his newfound freedom and relationship with a younger woman isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and finds himself pining for his ex wife.
The story mirrors real life in many ways – pitfalls in relationships, side effects of menopause, and marriage mishaps. I found myself laughing with Lyn and drawn into her drama and decisions. And although I’m in total disagreement with some of the choices she made at the end of this book, it was her story, not mine, and that didn’t change the fact that the story was engaging and well written.

Excerpt: Did I Move to the Sahara?

Remember when we were younger and our youthful bodies produced enough moisture that we didn’t feel like alligators? It doesn’t seem like so long ago, yet now I’m left wondering: How is it that I can reapply body cream three and four times a day, but within an hour or two, it completely disappears? Where does it go? Has my body become the keeper of Vaseline Intensive Care? Am I storing it subcutaneously?

Is this why I look bigger?

Winter, spring, summer, or fall—the seasons change nothing when it comes to this symptom of menopause. My skin is dry all the time, and so is my hair, leaving it like straw if I don’t use heavy-duty conditioner. Argan oil has become a mainstay for me, right up there with toothpaste.

Every time another body part fell victim to this reptilian syndrome, I gasped in disbelief. There was actually more to come!

Humorous and Informative Memoir

on November 15, 2015

What a treat of a memoir. For men it helps to learn about one horrendous phenomenon that women are punished with, and for women to be warned or reminded of what is to come, and most of all: for all of us to laugh. As the author puts is herself: Laughter is the best medicine, especially in something so unpredictable and unavoidable as the menopause.

Kaye writes with her signature style of honesty and humour, not pulling her punches and telling it is like it is. She describes the stages of the menopause and how she dealt with them and what the alternatives are; all the while keeping it light-hearted.
A quote: “this menopause **** is going to cost you extra bucks in the beauty department..”

Hers is a refreshing and wonderful approach. Having lived through it and having ridden the storm the natural way, she shares a lot of well researched information that led to her chosen and described choices in the battle with the menopause.

I must say, I did not expect this subject to be so enjoyable to read as it is. This contains sound advice, is practical and has a welcome focus on the best way to deal with this emotionally.

#Meno-Moments and #Memory

memory loss

My definition of memory:  It’s a part of our subconscience that computes life’s events, instilled to serve us for when we wish to recollect or locate something.

This is not to be confused with memories of the long ago past, as it seems my brain has no trouble remembering the color of a certain dress I may have worn when I was four years old, yet hesitates to remind me about what I ate for dinner last night.

I used to pride myself on my excellent memory. I am grateful that it still serves me up great detail of my past, but as my shorter term memory has somewhat vanished, making lists to do, to buy, to go, and reminders, have become part of my everyday living.

list-820967_640 (2)

My great recollections of the yesteryears enable me to write a lot about my past. Thankfully, I don’t have to write about yesterday’s news or it may go something like this: “Um, right, yesterday as I was eating my ? for lunch, I realized I had forgotten where I put my keys after coming home from (insert wherever). I know I always leave them in the front hall desk drawer, and I remember getting sidetracked while placing them down. My cell phone rang in my purse before I barely got my boots off. . . ” That’s where the concentration ends.

When I’m no longer focused on the immediate task at hand and am taken off course by a distraction, I unconsciously disregard my original intent while focusing on the next event. This is how I tend to misplace things.

Retrieval Method: When I go into search mode, I pinpoint back to the last thing I remember doing at the time I placed down my keys and mull over what took place when I lost the item, which at least gives me a hint of the vicinity where I should begin looking.

Annoying little things like these types of incidents send my inner think tank into a frenzy. What really frustrates me about this little memory game are the moments when I lose a word. It often feels as though a name or a place sitting right there on the tip of my tongue is yet so far away from my brain to grasp. It isn’t that I don’t actually know the word to use, it just won’t reveal itself to me.

Words, keys, shoes, meals, occasionally get lost in a secret cabinet in my brain, which I occasionally lose access to. If I could only remember in what part of my brain I keep that little cabinet, I may be able to better remember where everything else is.

I know I must have plenty of company in this department?

Review: “Meno-What? A Memoir: Memorable Moments Of Menopause” by D.G. Kaye | writerchristophfischer

Meno photofunia

It’s always a pleasant surprise when we’re going through blogs we follow and find that a fellow blogger has graciously posted something nice about us.

I came across this lovely review of my book MenoWhat? A Memoir while visiting author Christoph Fischer’s blog. Besides the warm and fuzzy feeling it gave me, I was also impressed with the fact that the book had not only received a great review, but once again it came from a male. Of course the topic of this book, menopause, is female oriented, but when I was writing it, it never really dawned on me how much help this book would be for the men in our lives to help understand the many moods and emotions women go through in that ‘uncertain’ time.

You should definitely read this, whether you need the advice or just want to have an informative and humorous read. Upbeat and entertaining this is a far cry from the book I had expected to read. This isn’t a miserablew ‘poor me’book but an inspiration.”

#Free Ebook MenoWhat? A Memoir — #Menopause #Humor

menowhat cover 600x900_72dpi

Just a heads up! My book MenoWhat? A Memoir will be free on Amazon today, Thursday November 5th until Monday November 9th.

This book is a humorous recanting of my memoirs on my not-so-sacred passage of what can truly be an exasperating time in a woman’s life. I say women because we’re the ones who have to go through it. But don’t feel discounted men, you may be interested in learning some of the whys about what your other half may be experiencing, and perhaps get some advice so you can better prepare yourselves for this ‘uncertain’ time.

For those women who have been there, done that, and may want to reminisce and chuckle after it’s done with, this book will undoubtedly remind you. And for those who have yet to enter the realm of the ‘Dragon’ phase, it’s never to early to get an education.

“As we go into the summer months I am going to be selecting books for the series as well as asking you to contribute your own books or those of authors you would like to recommend.  There are now over 50 books in the series all with 5 star reviews and covering a very diverse range of subjects.. The link is at the bottom of the post.

It is safe to say that any woman who has reached 50 is in the middle of one of the most natural but often challenging transformations of a human body.  There is life after menopause and in fact there are countless advantages but during the process as hormones fluctuate up and down like a rollercoaster, physically, mentally and emotionally we also take the ride of our lives and usually drag hapless husbands and family members along with us!!”  . . .  Read More by clicking the link below:

Cover Reveal — Meno-What? A Memoir – Memorable Moments of Menopause

coming soon

Some of you may have noticed I have been sparse these past few weeks. It’s that busy time once again getting my new book — MENO-WHAT? A Memoir Memorable Moments of Menopause. ready to put out into the world.

It is all the fine-tuning that involves such intricate detail, time for revisions and editors and more revisions. Time to make sure your book cover shines and portrays perfectly what the book is about. And time, again to revise to make sure everything is just right before formatting to prepare for publication.

These are the times when the days turn into nights without notice. The times we find it hard to squeeze in time to even cook a meal, let alone get dressed.

By mid-May, I will be happy to share my new book with all of you. At this time, I would like to share my cover reveal here with the book description listed below.

I was inspired to write this book to show a lighter side of this sizzling phase of life by providing some deja vu moments for some women who have done the dance and to share with others who have yet to experience it, some of the crazy rides menopause can take us on.

Big thanks to my Book Cover Artist and Designer: Yvonne Less, diversepixel.com

Memory and Memoir……….Just a thought

Today's thought

I was speaking to a friend today and while I was in the middle of a sentence, I found myself in one of those all too familiar situations of late; when I totally forgot the context of what I was saying.  Of course I broke up laughing, but in that same moment, I said to my friend, “Holy crap, sometimes I find it so hard to believe that I actually wrote a memoir, going back almost fifty years in detail, yet I can’t even remember what I had for dinner the night before.”

I know that crazy “change” will do strange things to us, perhaps that is why I chose to write my second book, a satirical humourous tale of menopause.  We have to laugh at those blank moments which happen, along with the other memorable (or maybe not so memorable), side-effects that come with this phase of life.  I like to try and always make light of a not so favourable situation, as scary as it can sometimes be.

You just Godda laugh!
